CHRE International Observatory on the Regulation of Health Professionals

The CHRE Observatory on the Regulation of Health Professionals seeks to support regulatory improvement around the world by developing a central store of information on how health professionals are regulated in different countries and enable cross-country learning. It is intended to help to spread good practice and advance understanding in the field of health professional regulation. We intend it to be an authoritative and accessible resource for those interested in regulatory policy development, comparing different approaches to the various aspects of health professional regulation.

Our objectives are to:

  • Report on how health professionals are regulated in different countries
  • Produce analytical reports and briefs on issues of concern to regulators
  • Operate a ‘rapid response’ facility to provide information and advice upon request
  • Develop a broader research capability so as to be able to respond to specific research commissions from Observatory Members and others.

For the first 20 months of the project we had a contract with LSE Health, an academic department of the London School of Economics, who have undertaken research and have delivered a series of detailed reports to us. We are currently considering how best to make the reports accessible to as wide an audience as possible.
