Policy & research

CHRE’s policy and research activities cover a wide range of issues relating to health professional regulation. We can look at specific questions or examine wider themes. The common factor underpinning all our work is that it affects the health, safety and well-being of patients and the public and it may be possible to improve how health professional regulators carry out their duties.

We take on projects at the request of the Secretary of State for Health in England and the Health Ministers in the devolved administrations. We also consider questions that emerge when CHRE reviews the performance of the regulators or audits their management of fitness to practise cases. We also respond to proposals that other organisations make to alter the management and delivery of healthcare or regulation.
