Council committees

We have three committees set up to help the Council with their work.

Audit and Risk Committee

The Audit and Risk Committee supports the Council by making sure that the systems of internal control run effectively and that any risks that we may face as an organisation are identified and managed.

It is responsible for reviewing the adequacy of internal audit and for providing a view on the effectiveness of the external audit function. The Audit and Risk Committee meets five times a year and reports to each meeting of the Council through the provision of minutes and a verbal report from the Audit Committee Chair.

Scrutiny Committee

The Scrutiny Committee reviews, monitors and reports on the work of the Scrutiny and Quality team who scrutinise and oversee the nine health professional regulatory bodies.

In particular, this includes our work in the following areas:

  • Consideration of final fitness to practise decisions
  • Audit of initial fitness to practise decisions
  • Reviewing the performance of the regulators
  • Consideration of complaints about the regulatory bodies

Remuneration Committee

The Remuneration Committee meets once a year (or more frequently if necessary) to agree the annual cost of living increases for staff and to deal with other remuneration issues if they arise.
